Originally named Nickelville (reportedly after the areas first store in the early 1870's) Wylie is still a quaint rural suburban community on the rise located just a few short miles northeast of Dallas in Collin County. Bordered 5 miles to the north by Lake Lavon and the same distance to the south by Lake Rockwall, this 33 square mile, family style community is just far enough from Dallas to hold on to its rural down home roots but just close enough to the city to enjoy its fruits. With The Wylie News (the cities own weekly publication) reporting that in 2005 every 8 hours a new home was built in Wylie, it would be an understatement to say that people are catching on to what makes this city so special. Children living in Wylie are served by the Wylie Independent School District.
