Just 25 miles east of downtown Dallas in northern Kaufman County, Terrell is a mid sized north Texas suburb offering the benefits of small town living combined with the conveniences of a big city. Terrell is home to the Terrell State Hospital, a psychiatric institution that has served the metroplex since its establishment in 1885. For many years the hospital assisted more patients than any other psychiatric institution west of the Mississippi, and while in recent years the hospital has seen a decline in its number of patients, it is still the largest employer in Terrell.
