Plano is the corporate headquarters for some of the country's largest and most-recognized companies. Electronic Data Systems, JC Penney, Cadbury Schweppes Americas Beverages (formerly Dr Pepper/Seven Up, Inc.), Frito Lay, Cinemark Theatres, Rent-A-Center, Perot Systems, Neiman Marcus and Dr. Pepper all call Plano home.

The city also hosts the famous "Southfork Ranch" on it eastern edge, which attracts millions of visitors each year for its connection to the classic television show "Dallas." The ranch is currently an event and conference center, owned by Forever Resorts, a division of MLM company Forever Living Products. It is also home to the KLTY-FM radio Christian concert "Celebrate Freedom" held annually during the Independence Day celebration.

Plano is also filled with other parks, trails and is home to numerous country clubs and golf courses. Plano is also one of many cities in the Dallas area that opts into the Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) public transportation system. Plano is served by both bus lines and in recent years by the new light rail (which has received heavy use as much of Plano's residents commute to work daily).
