Midlothian Homes for Sale

Quietly located just nine miles northwest of Waxahachie, Midlothian is an unassumingly industrial city. Formerly called "The Steel and Cement Capital of Texas," Midlothian is home to three of the top ten largest cement factories in the United States; Texas Industries ("TXI"), Holcim, and Ash Grove. Chapparal Steel runs a large steel factory adjacent to TXI's cement plant in Midlothian. The same area was also initially designated as the site for the national Superconducting Super Collider project which was eventually halted by the United States House of Representatives in 1993. A large industrial park, Railport, is also located in the city. Home to several distribution facilities including, Target, Toys R US, Kehe Foods, and a forthcoming 1.5 million square foot facility for Solo Cups, Midlothian is the epicenter for much of the commercial industry in north Texas. Beginning in the mid 1970's, Midlothian saw an influx of residents from Dallas and Fort Worth who built new homes on farmlands just outside the city limits. Though Midlothian proper was left essentially unchanged, the school district expanded to 20,000 students while the city's population remained near just 6,000 people. The City of Midlothian is served by the Midlothian Independent School District.
